Our Wineries

Located in the heart of Hawke's Bay - New Zealand's oldest and second largest wine region, are our two wineries - Giants Estate and Gimblett Gravels. Both wineries have been meticulously designed and equipped with state-of-the-art technology to bring out the best in the unique parcels of grapes harvested from our vineyards in Hawke's Bay and Martinborough.

"We remain guided by our founding vision: to craft wines of purity, balance, and substance, worthy of standing alongside the great estates of the world. We believe that truly great wine should be irresistibly delicious from the moment of release, while evolving with grace over decades. Wines that captivate, endure, and express the unmistakable character of our land and story"

- Ben Tombs, Chief Winemaker.

Gimblett Gravels Winery

Most of the Craggy Range wines are made at our purpose-built Gimblett Gravels Winery, located in the heart of the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District. Designed to craft the very best expressions of the varietals we farm in both Hawke’s Bay and Martinborough.

On the southern side, a dedicated receiving area gently handles grape sorting, crushing, and pressing.

The two adjacent cellars house a variety of smaller fermentation vessels, including stainless steel, ceramic, amphora, concrete and oak - allowing individual parcels to be fermented separately. This approach highlights the unique character of each wine and the nuances of each vintage.

The two barrel halls are at the heart of the winery, with the ability to carefully control the humidity and temperature across multiple zones ensures ideal maturation conditions for each wine.

Our winemakers utilise a high-tech control system to gather data, and make informed and creative decisions. A restrained use of oak and a diverse array of fermentation vessels - including sandstone, ceramic, and concrete tanks, enable us to bring forward the true expression of each vineyard and varietal.

Giants Estate Winery

Nestled beneath the iconic Te Mata Peak in Hawke’s Bay, our Giants Estate Winery is the heart of Craggy Range and home to our cellar door, restaurant and boutique accommodation. This winery is dedicated to the craft of small-parcel and Prestige Wine production, designed to reflect the highest standards of elegance and finesse.

Our Giants Estate Winery houses three cellars, including Sophia - a purpose-built circular fermentation cellar, where our iconic Sophia wine is crafted. Visually striking, it contains 8,000 litre French oak cuves used for fermenting individual parcels from the Gimblett Gravels vineyard, allowing each to express its distinct character.

Below Sophia lies The Quarry, a barrel cellar where the blended components of ‘Sophia’ are aged together for its final 12 months under optimal conditions.
