2022 Te Kahu

Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay

Cassis | Cocoa | Concentrated

Te Kahu, meaning “the cloak” in te reo Māori, refers to the mist that drapes over our Giants Estate Winery in the Tukituki Valley. Legend tells of this mist protecting a mythical Māori maiden from the sun as she visited her lover, Te Mata. True to its name, Te Kahu is a wine of depth and richness - a Merlot-dominant, Bordeaux-style blend from the Gimblett Gravels. Ripe, dark fruit and supple tannins are carried by a long, structured finish.

Gimblett Gravels, Hawke's Bay

In the heart of Hawke’s Bay, the Gimblett Gravels wine-growing district is one of the most prized terroirs in New Zealand - and Craggy Range is proud to be among its earliest champions.

Formed by the shifting path of the Ngaruroro River over 150 years ago, the Gimblett Gravels is defined by its free-draining stony soils and warm, sun-soaked days. These unique conditions produce wines of remarkable depth, structure, and complexity - particularly Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, for which the region is now world-renowned, along with Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Craggy Range’s Gimblett Gravels Vineyard consistently delivers some of our most iconic wines, including the celebrated Le Sol, and Sophia. Each vintage is a reflection of our meticulous approach to single-site winemaking and our commitment to expressing the character of the land.
