A refined and elegant hand-crafted Merlot dominant blend that represents both the vigneron’s art and an inherent understanding of the land, ensuring ‘Sophia’ is the finest expression of the terroir and the people.

The 2022 vintage is intensely aromatic and rich, with ripe mulberry, blackcurrant and mocha notes. Beautifully pure, it is very approachable with dark cherry and sweet spice effortlessly flowing through the palate. Drinking well now, though will reward cellaring.

As described by Stephen Wong for @therealrvw - “Enveloping and complex with some early earthy development showing for such a young wine…a very well trimmed palate with mid-weight flavours and good length finishing on noticeably fresh acidity. Smooth tannins provide flow and structure but don’t dominate” - 95 points.

Craggy Range is governed by a 1,000 year trust, instilling a long-term perspective in everything we do.

With this in mind, one of the initiatives that we`ve been working on over the past two years has been reducing our average bottle weight across our portfolio of wines by 22%, which contributes to lowering our carbon usage during transportation and handling.

99% of our glass is also now sourced locally in New Zealand, and our glass manufacturer has a target of using 70% recycled glass in their bottles. This approach further minimises our carbon footprint without compromising the high quality that defines our wines.
